The Planner News Briefs

April 2008

Greetings:
Welcome to this edition of Financial Planning Association of Nevada’s monthly news brief.  In it you will find useful information about our chapter and its programs promoting the financial planning profession.

Andrew PataiPresident’s Message
by Andrew Patai

I wanted to take a moment and let everyone know what is going on behind the scenes with FPA of Nevada.  I am very pleased with the activity with our local chapter.  We currently have the most comprehensive Board our chapter has seen in a long time and I can tell you they are bringing you the best of everything.  Our first ever Sin City Financial Symposium is scheduled for September 19th, 2008 and is anticipated to be the start of an annual event that will be talked about throughout the country!  New members are in for a treat with tri-annual new member meetings, our programs are robust, continuing education credits are available in many ways, the FPA of Nevada (very soon to be FPA of Nevada through our merger with Northern Nevada) name and recognition are being shared throughout the community in numerous pro-bono activities, and our sponsorships have reached new heights.

This month’s meeting will be a first of its kind with the Junior Achievement of Nevada and is shaping up to be a great relationship for our chapter and all of the children that can use some guidance.  We hope to see you all at this meeting, which will be held at the Pampas Grill.  This could be a new venue for our meetings so this month we are asking for your input and have reduced the cost to only $20 if you register before the event.  See this months meeting details on the website for all the details.

Your comments help us continue to make positive changes to bring what you desire.  Please let us know how we are doing at the meetings with the comment cards.  Also, if you have a desire to participate in the FPA organization, we have numerous committees that would welcome anyone interested in volunteering.

Thank you to our Board, our sponsors and all the members and guests!

Pro Bono (Staci Scharadin, CFP®, Chair)

What better pro bono program could the FPA-SN have than one that helps prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace?  The goal of Junior Achievement of Las Vegas is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Staci Scharadin, Chair of our Pro Bono Committee, has cultivated and developed this exciting new pro bono opportunity for FPA-SN members.

JA Worldwide is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs.

Junior Achievement provides the training, curriculum, and a classroom ready to meet you.  All JA needs is your enthusiasm, life experience, and a willingness to teach children about how you took chances and shot for the stars.

Volunteering for JA provides a very flexible opportunity. The commitment from a participating FPA member might be a single school day or a weekly visit of one hour each for five to 10 weeks. It all depends on the grade level of the program you, the member, choose.

Come to the April 24th FPA-SN meeting at Pampas Grill and find out more about this great program and pro bono opportunity.
