The Planner News Briefs

June 2008

Greetings: Victoria,
Welcome to this edition of Financial Planning Association of Southern Nevada’s monthly news brief.  In it you will find useful information about our chapter and its programs promoting the financial planning profession.

President’s Message—Andrew Patai, CFP®

Welcome to this month’s FPANV newsletter.  The Board has mentioned that we would soon be a chapter representing the entire state of Nevada and not separate North and South chapters.  We are happy to announce we have officially become the Financial Planning Association of Nevada and are excited about the future!  The opportunity to have a larger presence in the state and the potential for closer ties to our state legislature is very exciting.  Stay tuned!

Our sponsors continue to help our chapter grow.  We have many opportunities to showcase sponsors.  From meeting presentations, to our website sponsor displays, to the regular email bulletins, our sponsors are a big part of our group.  Please take a moment to visit out website and click on the links for our sponsors.  We appreciate their support and conversely, they appreciate our support as well.

Wine Tasting Social

Coming in July, we will have a special Chapter fellowship event. We are in the process of arranging to have a wine tasting at Jimmy’s on Lake Meade in Summerlin. Stay tuned and watch your email for more information.

Sin City Financial Symposium Sponsorship Opportunity Extended

The Board has decided to keep the deadline for symposium sponsors open until June 24. So if you would like to be a sponsor of the first annual Sin City Financial Symposium (or know someone who should be), go online now and reserve your booth.

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman will be joining us for Martini’s with the Mayor right after the final session of the symposium. So this is an event you won’t want to miss.

News Briefs

The Financial Planning Association of Northern Nevada and the Financial Planning Association of Southern Nevada have been negotiating a merger since the fall.  We are pleased to announce that the merger has finally been approved by national. To better serve the financial planning community in Nevada, the FPA of Southern Nevada has changed its name to the Financial Planning Association of Nevada.

In the coming months, the FPA of Nevada will be developing high quality educational programs. We will endeavor to have programs in both in Reno and Las Vegas. We are also working on ways to have programs simulcast to reach a larger audience across the state.

If you would like to participate on the Chapter’s Board of Directors or on one of its committees, please let us know.

We look forward to making the Financial Planning Association the premier association for financial service professionals in Nevada.

Board Appoints New PR Director

The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that it has appointed Denise Wilcox, CFP® as Public Relations director. Denise will be replacing Tim Truebenbach who has left Las Vegas to take over practice in Washington State.

Denise is the owner of Wilcox Advisors, a fee only practice in Henderson and brings a lot of experience with PR to the table.

Pro-Bono Program Underway and Can Use More Volunteers

In 2007, the Financial Planning Association® of Nevada initiated our Pro Bono program by partnering with WestCare of Nevada, a local community organization whose clients are in need of basic financial skills. Financial planning professional volunteers provided on-going educational workshops and services free to WestCare’s clients helping them improve their quality of life. This program was well received and we are expanding the program this year to reach more individuals in need of these services by working with other community agencies.

We are currently working with Child Focus and need some additional financial service professionals to volunteer to teach a two hour workshop over the next several weeks on a Thursdays from 1-3 PM at 4310 Cameron St #13.

All the teaching materials are available online in our download center.

If you would like to help us with one or more of these programs, please contact Linda Bertuzzi (702 595-9565) as soon as possible.

Visit our website for more information about our pro-bono program.
