The Planner News Briefs

July 2008

Welcome to this edition of Financial Planning Association of Southern Nevada’s monthly news brief.  In it you will find useful information about our chapter and its programs promoting the financial planning profession.

President’s Message—Andrew Patai, CFP®

“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” – Henry Ford

Teamwork, on all levels, has brought our chapter to new milestones and promises to take us to new levels.  From my short tenure with the FPA of Nevada, I have witnessed this first hand.

First, I would like to welcome Denise Wilcox to our Board as the Public Relations Chairperson.  She is not new to volunteerism with our chapter as she currently serves on the Pro Bono Committee as well.  Having taken her own business to new heights through extensive PR and publicity, we are excited to see what she has in store for our chapter!

With the expansion of our chapter to include the entire State of Nevada, our efforts on every level will take on a new look.  We anticipate a couple Board members from the Las Vegas area traveling to Reno shortly to help get everyone acquainted and determine our future plans.  Talks are underway to coordinate providing meeting broadcasts to the members up North through video conferencing, or the like.  The Symposium in September will certainly attract members from all corners of our state.  Financial Planning Week (October 6th – 12th) will soon be upon us and the goal is to have events in Las Vegas and Reno to help spread the word.  Several members from the previous FPA of Northern Nevada have reached out and offered to volunteer in any way they can.  Awesome!

Did I mention our Wine Tasting Social?  Eleesa Aimaq, Membership Director, has been working diligently to put together a fantastic wine and cheese tasting event coming up on Thursday, July 31st.  This is strictly a social event and is open to members and their spouses, clients, allied professionals, or anyone else that would like to participate.  There is limited space, so please RSVP as soon as possible.  You will receive an email shortly with all of the details.

Not that our Board has a one-track mind, but don’t forget Martinis With The Mayor!  At the conclusion of the Sin City Symposium, Mayor Oscar Goodman will be sharing his tips on his favorite concoction and spending some time with our group.  If you have had the pleasure of meeting with the Mayor, you know this is certain to be a good time.  If you have not, it is worth the price of admission.

And don’t forget our annual Holiday party!  This year we are looking for something different that everyone will certainly enjoy.  Talks are underway and details will be coming shortly.

I hope everyone has a great summer and look forward to seeing you over the coming months at our exciting events we have planned.
