The Planner News Briefs

March 2009

Greetings: Victoria,
Welcome to this edition of Financial Planning Association of Southern Nevada’s monthly news brief.  In it you will find useful information about our chapter and its programs promoting the financial planning profession.

President’s Message
Staci Scharadin

Dennis Filangeri and I recently visited with several members in Reno to strategize on FPA of Nevada’s goals and visions. It was an exceptional meeting and participants were energized. Members outside Las Vegas will be joining our meetings via audio/video stream.

Greg Crawford is keeping us up to speed on government affairs and is influential in the state wide initiative to prevent Nevada retirement plan providers from having to become trust companies. Several of the northern Nevada advisors are interested in getting actively involved in our chapter’s pro bono initiatives, sponsorship, and other planned programs to round out our statewide chapter.

We are looking forward to our newest pro bono partnership with the Barbara Greenspun WomensCare Centers of Excellence and encourage each of you to participate in educating the community during these tough economic times.

FPA National has posted its latest chapter leaders’ conference call on the financial state of the FPA which address and the health of our national association. You can hear the conference by clicking here and logging on. We look forward to our next quarterly meeting on April 29th! See you there.

We would like to facilitate opportunities for members to share what they learn from other professional and trade associations. Each year, many of us attend the FPA International Conference, the FPA Retreat, the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), or broker dealer related conferences. We would like help create an opportunity for members to network before, during and after the conferences and to share what they learned with our membership.

Please email me (john.a.dube@ampf.com) with the names and dates of the conferences you will be attending so we can help put you in touch with other attendees.

Chapter Update
Dennis Filangeri, Chap Exec.

I want to thank the chapter members who continue to support the FPA and the Nevada chapter by helping us bring greater benefits to our members. In the last year, we have expanded our role in Nevada by absorbing the members of the now defunct Northern Nevada Chapter. This makes us one statewide chapter. It is our goal to make sure that all FPA members in Nevada receive maximum benefits of education, networking, and business and career development.

We are working on ways to bring our amazing educational programs to all members in Nevada. We are working on expanding our community outreach through our pro-bono efforts and increased public relations program. We are also working on a Nevada opt-in membership directory that the public can access to find trustworthy local financial professionals.

Thank you for understanding that in these tough economic times, it has become necessary for our chapter to join the majority of other chapters in adding a membership assessment to support our programs. One way to help minimize membership assessments is through increased corporate sponsorships and online advertising. If you know of financial professionals, product and service providers, who are trustworthy and reliable and who would benefit from becoming a contributing corporate sponsor, please send me an email with that information.

For those of you who paid your special assessment, thank you. For those who haven’t yet made your payment, we wish you well and hope you will soon be in a better financial position to reinstate your membership to good standing.
